Soldier’s Servant, Heat interrogates the interface of the virtual assistant through futile attempts at clarity about the contemporary forces shaping our planet. The film gets its title from Siri’s progenitor, CALO, a DARPA-funded AI assistant. CALO’s name, an acronym for “Cognitive Assistant that Learns and Organizes,“ was chosen for its Latin meaning “soldier’s servant,” though it also translates from Latin as “heat.”
