Maya Livio, Jen Liu, Kristin Dew, SzuYu Liu, and Patrycja Zdziarska. 2019. Methods for Noticing Workbook. First presented at Designing Interactive Systems Conference: DIS ‘19.

This workbook proposes a methodology for ‘noticing’, after Tsing. Noticing can help researchers better understand “the divergent, layered, and conjoined projects that make up worlds” (The Mushroom at the End of the World, 22) by amplifying, augmenting, and attuning their attention to a wide range of beings, perspectives, and relations. The workbook, first developed for a workshop at ACM DIS ‘19, presents a set of generative methods for noticing in research. These methods are offered as tactics for re-examining research assumptions, and for pursuing pathways towards preferable futures.
